The cutter head is an important component in Tunnel boring machine, usually made of tungsten cobalt alloy. The combination of carbon tungsten with ultra-high hardness and brittleness, and cobalt with increased hardness at high temperatures, results in a hard alloy material with high strength and wear resistance. In the production process of cutting hard alloy heads, after quenching heat treatment, sandblasting surface treatment can clean burrs and oxide layers. Then it’s easier to adopt plasma cladding technology for rust prevention treatment. The cutting teeth made in this way are not easy to rust and can be durable for a long time. Brown fused aluminum oxide F46 mesh is a first-class fused alumina, which has great advantages as an alloy product for sandblasting treatment.

Brown aluminum oxide F46 has the following advantages when used for sandblasting of cutting alloy heads:

1. High hardness and cutting force.

BFA F46 is smelted from bauxite, and its crystals are mostly corundum phase, mainly composed of 95% alumina. Therefore, Brown corundum is its another name. Brown fused alumina has extremely high hardness and grinding force. This enables it to effectively remove the oxide layer, rust, and other impurities on the surface of the alloy head during sandblasting.

2. Good resilience.

Brown aluminum oxide 46 mesh has better toughness than white fused alumina, which means that during sandblasting, it can effectively clean the tungsten cobalt alloy code without causing excessive damage and etching to the alloy head.

3. Moderate sandblasting roughness.

The particle size of brown fused alumina F46 is 300-425um. After sandblasting the alloy tooth parts, a suitable surface roughness can be formed, which is beneficial for the next step of plasma cladding coating. Improve the grip of the coating.

4. Low water-soluble chloride content and low conductivity.

6. Economy.

Compared with other abrasives such as silica sand and garnet, brown fused aluminum oxide F46 may have a higher initial purchase cost. However, it can improve production efficiency and save a lot of time. Thus, for long-term use, BFA blasting media is more economical.
